Lesson One of Labrador Innu-aimun: An Introduction to the Sheshatshiu Dialect provides an introduction to the pronunciation of Innu for speakers of English.
This dialect of Innu is spoken in the community of Sheshatshiu, Labrador. Also known as Montagnais, this variety of Innu is similar to the dialect spoken in Sept-Iles and Schefferville, Quebec (Uashunnu) and is also closely related to the varieties of the Quebec Lower North Shore, the Mashkuannu dialect spoken in Mingan, Natashquan, La Romaine and St. Augustin.
To a lesser extent, the Sheshatshiu dialect shares features with the only other variety of Innu spoken in Labrador, the Mushuau dialect, spoken in Natuashish, which from a linguistic perspective is best described as Eastern Naskapi.
